The long tantalizing rumor of an eight-processor Mac (I think I recall such a rumor back in the DayStar upgrade days) has finally come to pass as Apple quietly surprised everyone and announced the 8-core Mac Pro with the Intel “Clovertown” dual four-core CPU option for an additional $1500. Not too shabby.
This announcement comes at a good time as the Adobe CS3 suite is shipping in a few weeks and the annual NAB convention happens at the same time. If Apple does indeed release an update to its Final Cut Pro video editing suite, it’ll have MUCH to crow about in terms of a workstation speed demon that few competitors should be able to touch for a while. The week around April 20th just gets more and more exciting!
